In honor of the new year, Chief Business Development Executive Cassie Bair, looks ahead to what’s in store for Mobile Citizen in 2019.

2019 is going to be an interesting year. First of all, there are a number of interesting topics being discussed at the FCC. This past May, the FCC proposed new rules that would substantially change Educational Broadband Service (EBS). Additionally, Sprint, whose network Mobile Citizen uses to provide low cost mobile internet to schools and nonprofits, may merge with T-Mobile. Mobile Citizen will be keeping its eyes on these important proceedings as they conclude sometime this year. In other news, the next big mobile technology, 5G, is fast approaching. Once fully implemented, this technology has the potential to catapult telecommunications forward. All in all, it’s an interesting time to be in the telecom industry.

The more things change, however, the more they stay the same. In 2019, Mobile Citizen will continue to strive to advance social equity through internet access. While keeping an eye on the exciting and tumultuous external environment, we continue to move forward with improvements that will help Mobile Citizen better achieve its mission. We are enhancing the customer experience through website and e-commerce upgrades over the next year. In addition, we are bringing in new talent with expertise in the wireless, nonprofit and education industries. Meanwhile, the current staff is taking on new certifications and continuing education opportunities in order to better serve the people Mobile Citizen impacts.

This year, Mobile Citizen is also looking at ways we can service nonprofits that are showing a high demand for the internet as they innovate their programs to meet evolving needs around internet access. We also plan on increasing our presence in the communities we serve through in-person meetings with customers and increased participation at trade shows and conferences.

We look forward to another great year providing low cost mobile internet to those organizations who need it the most. Stay tuned for more exciting news as the year continues!
